242.04   APPOINTMENT AND PROBATION OF PATROLMEN.
   (a)   (1)   Full-time and part-time Deputy Marshals, designated Patrolmen, shall be employed in such numbers as Council shall from time to time determine. Such Patrolmen are not required to be electors of the Village.
      (2)   The Police Chief, with the Mayor’s approval, is hereby authorized to hire part-time Deputy Marshals, designated part-time police patrolmen, in such number and for such working hours per week as may from time to time be budgeted by Council.

   (b)   The appointment of such Patrolmen shall be made by the Mayor, subject to confirmation by Council, for a probationary period of 12 months or more of continuous service, and no appointment shall be finally made until the appointee has satisfactorily served his or her probationary period. At the end of the probationary period, the Mayor shall transmit to Council a record of the service of such appointee with the Mayor's recommendations thereon, and the Mayor may, with the concurrence of Council, remove or finally appoint such Patrolmen.
