(A) Trucks required to follow routes.
(1) All trucks entering the town destined to any point outside of the town and not taking on or discharging any goods, wares or merchandise within the town limits shall travel exclusively on truck routes established in division (D) below and over the part of the truck routes as shall constitute the shortest and most direct route from the point of entrance into the town and departure from the town.
(2) For the purpose of this schedule, the term TRUCK shall mean any apparatus or combination thereof that contains more than two axles or that weighs in excess of 20,000 pounds whether loaded or unloaded; provided that, this shall not apply to any vehicle used by or in connection with the repair or maintenance of any street, water or sewage system; garbage collection performed by or on behalf of the town; any fire protection or rescue squad apparatus; any school or activity bus; any utility maintenance vehicle; or any vehicle used in obtaining driving permits or license, provided that, the driver is accompanied by a state driver’s license examiner.
(B) Trucks prohibited on town streets.
(1) All trucks are prohibited from traveling on town streets, except for the truck routes designated in division (D) below; provided that, trucks may travel on non-permitted streets to reach or to return from a destination upon the street; and, provided that, the following designated trucks shall be permitted to travel upon streets not approved as truck routes where a truck route is not available:
(a) Fuel delivery trucks going to and from a specific destination for the sole purpose of delivering fuel and/or tanks;
(b) Parcel and freight delivery trucks with bills of lading with a specific destination within an otherwise prohibited area for the sole purpose of delivering parcels and/or freight;
(c) Moving vans that are hired to move household furniture to or from a particular location; and/or
(d) Trucks granted a permit by the state’s Department of Transportation to move structures to and from a particular location.
(2) In order to qualify for the exceptions set out in divisions (B)(1)(a) through (B)(1)(d) above, the driver shall have in his or her immediate possession a bill of lading or permit which shall designate the destination, name of recipient and cargo intended for delivery.
(C) Routes to be marked. The Chief of Police shall cause to be erected and maintained, at points where through truck routes enter the town and at all junction points and turns where necessary, signs of the dimensions and at locations as shall be approved by him or her, directing truck traffic in accordance with the provisions of this schedule.
