(a) The Fire Department shall be composed of a force not to exceed forty-five in number, including the Chief of the Department who shall be appointed by the Mayor at the advice and consent of Council.
(b) To become a member of the Fire Department each new member hired, named or appointed after April 22, 1985, shall be required to have completed a course of instruction in emergency medical technician ambulance training, and shall have received a certificate of competency pursuant to Ohio R. C. 4731.82 et seq., and maintain such certificate by whatever renewal requirements are prescribed in the Ohio Revised Code pertinent to such training.
