139.02 INJURIES AND HEALTH PROBLEMS.
   (a)    Due to the nature of the job as police officer of the Village of Waite Hill, it is necessary that all members of the Department be in excellent health. If a member of the Police Department is injured or has a health problem that requires medical leave, it shall be mandatory that this member be certified by two doctors, one of the choosing of the Village administration, that said officer has regained his health before he/she may be placed back on active duty of the Department. Should this member apply for and be granted disability, or permanent partial disability, this shall be an indication that this member is not fully capable of performing the duties of police officer. He/she shall then be placed on sick leave and his/her salary shall be paid according to current Village policy.
   (b)    An officer who has lawfully been given a prescription for a controlled or dangerous drug, or other medication that may affect or limit physical or mental ability to perform the essential functions of the job, or is on a continuing prescription for drugs, shall immediately inform the Chief of Police of the prescription along with a physician's description of the purpose and effects of the medication. The prescribing physician shall also be required to certify to the Village that the prescription taken as directed will not interfere with the performance of the duties of the officer taking the prescription. It shall be determined by the Mayor and Chief of Police if this medication will affect the officer's performance of his job and if the officer should be placed on paid or unpaid medical leave. Failure to comply with this policy may result in suspension or dismissal. (Ord. 1998-8. Passed 2-9-98.)
