§ 95.055 NUMBERING REQUIRED.
   (A)   Every building or residence fronting upon any of the streets shall be numbered and the following system of numbering the same is hereby adopted, to wit: All streets shall be numbered north and south from First Street, and east and west from Broadway. Streets running north from First Street shall be called north streets, and streets running south from First Street shall be called south streets, as North Broadway and South Broadway, North Linden Avenue and South Linden Avenue, and the like. Streets running east from Broadway shall be called east streets, and those running west from Broadway shall be called west streets, as East Fifth Street and West Fifth Street, and the like. All odd numbers shall be given to the buildings and residences on the south side, and all even numbers shall be given to the buildings and residences on the north side of each street running east and west; on all streets running north and south, the odd numbers shall be on the west side, and the even numbers on the east side of each of such streets. Numbers shall commence on all streets running south from said First Street with 100 for the first number in the first block, 200 for the second block, 300 for the third block, and the like, and numbers shall commence on all streets running north from said First Street with 100 for the first number in the first block, 200 for the second block, 300 for the third block, and in like manner to the corporate limits. Numbers shall commence on all streets running east from Broadway with 100 for the first number in the first block, 200 for the first number in the second block, 300 in the third block, and in like manner to the city limits; and numbers shall commence on all streets running west from Broadway with 100 for the first number in the first block, 200 for the first number in the second block, 300 in the third block, and in like manner to the city limits. On any street where there is a long block directly opposite to two blocks, the numbers in the long block shall be made to correspond with the blocks opposite. In all cases where there shall be short streets, or streets which do not extend to the said basic or starting streets, to wit: First Street and Broadway, such streets shall be taken to have the numbered blocks which they would have and receive in case they did extend to said First Street or Broadway, and shall be designated in their numbers of buildings or residences as east or west, or north or south, as they may be east or west from Broadway, or north or south of First Street.
   (B)   The space or distance allowed each number shall be eight feet. To find a number, measure from the corner of the block, commencing with the first number of the block, and count one number for each eight feet until opposite the door, and the number for these eight feet shall be the number for the door or building. Numbers shall be placed in such manner and shall be of such type as may be prescribed by the City Council.
