12-2-2: DEFINITIONS AND ABBREVIATIONS:
In the construction of this Title the definitions contained herein shall be observed and applied except when the context clearly indicates otherwise. Also, abbreviations, initials, and symbols used in the text, tables, exhibits, and forms shall have the meanings ascribed to them herein.
BB: Balled and burlapped.
BR: Bare root.
CALIPER: The diameter size of trees. The caliper of the trunk shall be taken six inches (6") above the ground up to and including four inch (4") caliper size, and twelve inches (12") above the ground for larger sizes.
CANOPY TREE: A descriptive term referring to large, single trunk, outwardly branching trees reaching a mature height of at least thirty feet (30').
DBH: The diameter size of trees at breast height. Breast height measured at four and one-half feet (41/2').
DECIDUOUS TREE (Or Other Plant): Any tree or other plant which sheds its leaves or needles at a particular season of the year.
DEVELOPER: The owner of a lot or other parcel of land or his agent engaged in the subdivision of land and/or the construction of improvements to land with the intention of selling to another person the lots so subdivided or the land so improved.
DRIP LINE: The perimeter of the circular area surrounding the trunk of a tree measured as one foot (1') of radius from the trunk for each one inch (1") of diameter at breast height.
EVERGREEN TREE (Or Other Plant): Any tree or other plant which retains its leaves or needles and remains green throughout the year.
GROUND COVER: A spreading plant with a height less than one foot (1'). Ground cover plants are often planted in dense grouping to control erosion or to provide ornamental surface.
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT: Any person trained or educated as a landscape architect who is a registered landscape architect with the State of Illinois.
ORNAMENTAL TREE: A tree generally having a mature height of less than twenty five feet (25'), valued for one or more aesthetic characteristics such as overall form, quality of bark, flowers, color of green foliage, fall color, or berries.
OWNER: The person or persons who are the record title holders of a parcel of land.
PUD: Planned unit development.
PERSON: Any individual, corporation, partnership, association, or any other legal entity, or any agent, servant, officer or employee thereof.
SHRUB: A small woody plant, generally less than twelve feet (12') in height having either many trunks or stems or a pattern of branching which starts close to the ground. Shrubs may be either deciduous or evergreen. Some shrubs are raised or pruned to resemble small trees and are called herein "tree-form" shrubs.
SUBDIVIDER: Any person subdividing land.
TREE: Any large woody plant having, characteristically, a single upright trunk or stem. Some large trees have multiple trunks and are here described as clumped or "clump form" trees.
TURF: An area of the surface of the ground densely planted with grasses or similar plants; lawn.
VILLAGE: Village of Wadsworth, Illinois.
VILLAGE FORESTER: A person appointed as Village Forester by the Village Board. (Ord. 97-473, 4-1-1997)
