3-3-5: METERS AND EQUIPMENT; TAP CHARGE:
   A.   Responsibility For Meters And Equipment; Tap Charge:
      1.   The water department will install the water meter, water pit cover and cup, yoke, and sufficient three-fourths inch (3/4") or one inch (1") K copper pipe to reach the property line of the water consumer or property owner. A tap charge will be calculated based on material cost plus fifteen percent (15%) and shall be charged for each new tap made by the city. (Ord., 9-8-1987; Ord., 10-2-1995; amd. 2009 Code)
      2.   The water consumer or property owner must furnish and install all other necessary equipment.
   B.   Location Of Meters: The location of the water meter shall be at the discretion of the public works director but shall at least abut the property line of the premises to which water is brought.
   C.   Installation Requirements: All water meters shall be placed and installed in a box known to the trade as the meter box and meter box cover. All water installations must be approved by the public works director.
   D.   Damage To Meters:
      1.   The water customer shall be liable for any damage to the meter, except ordinary wear. (Ord., 9-8-1987)
      2.   Where there is a possibility of water backing into the water meter, a suitable check valve shall be provided between the meter and the building to protect the meter. The customer shall be liable for all damages to the meter by water backing into the meter. (Ord., 4-2-1929; amd. 1981 Code; 2009 Code)
