When any ordinance or part thereof shall be repealed, modified or amended by subsequent ordinance, the ordinance or part thereof so repealed, modified or amended shall continue in force until the taking effect of the ordinance so repealing, modifying or amending the same. No ordinance or part thereof repealed by the city council shall be deemed to be revised by the repeal of the repealing ordinance unless it shall therein so expressly provide. All ordinances passed by the city council shall be deposited in the office of the city clerk and shall be duly recorded by the clerk in a book known as the "ordinance record" and appropriately indexed by titles or subject matters. The city clerk shall file and carefully preserve the original of all ordinances so deposited in his office. (1925 Code § 13-2)
