(A) There shall be the following ranks in the City Police Department in progressive order of authority, as follows:
(1) Rookie officer.
(2) Second class officer.
(3) First class officer.
(4) Sergeant.
(5) Lieutenant.
(6) Captain.
(7) Assistant Chief.
(8) Chief.
(B) All patrol officers hereafter employed shall be of a rank of rookie patrol officers during the first year of employment, and upon the first anniversary of employment shall be automatically advanced to second class police officer, and upon the second anniversary of employment shall be automatically advanced to first class police officer.
