§ 33.38 INITIAL PROMOTIONS TO ANY RANK; EXAMINATION; TIME OF SERVICE; EXCEPTIONS.
   Initially, upon the effective date of this Chapter, the promotion to any rank except that of chief of police, shall be open to any member of the department who has passed the competitive examination: provided, that any such member shall have had two years of service in the department at the time of promotion to the rank of sergeant; four years of service at the time of promotion to lieutenant; six years service at the time of promotion to the rank of captain and seven years of service at the time of promotion to the rank of major.
