(A) Commencing with the year 1996, a surviving spouse of a deceased member of the Vincennes Police or Fire Departments shall be paid an amount equal to 40% of the monthly pay of a first class patrolman or a first class fireman on a monthly basis.
(B) Commencing with the year 1996, a surviving child of a deceased member of the Vincennes Police or Fire Department shall be paid an amount equal to 20% of the monthly pay of a first class patrolman or a first class fireman on a monthly basis as follows:
(1) Until the child reaches 18 years of age;
(2) Until the child reaches 23 years of age if the child is enrolled in and regularly attending a secondary school or is a full time student at an accredited college or university; or
(3) During the entire period of a child's physical or mental disability;
Whichever period is longer.
