(A) Separate trenches. The building sewer, when installed in a separate trench from the water-service pipe, shall be cast-iron sewer pipe, vitrified-clay sewer pipe, or polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic sewer pipe. Joints shall be watertight and rootproof.
(B) One trench. The building sewer, when installed in the same trench with the water service pipe, shall be constructed of durable materials which are corrosion-resistant and shall be so installed as to remain watertight and be rootproof. The building sewer shall be tested with a 10-foot head of water or equivalent and found to be tight. The water service pipe shall be installed at least 12 inches above the top level of the building sewer and must be placed on a solid shelf at the side of the trench and should be in 1 piece between the building and the curb stop.
(C) Proper foundation. All sewers outside of buildings must be laid in ground of sufficient solidity for a proper foundation and in a trench with a uniform grade of not less than 1/8 inch to the foot and 1/4 inch if practicable.
