(a) No applicant who has passed his or her registration test and has paid his or her registration fee shall commence work as either a contractor or subcontractor within the corporate limits of the City, until such time as a certificate, showing proof of general public liability insurance coverage, has been posted with the Building Inspector.
(b) A contractor or subcontractor, after having successfully passed the required examination shall, additionally, before work is undertaken, file a certificate of general public liability insurance coverage with the Building Department, which shall remain in full effect while any and all business is undertaken within the corporate limits of the City, in the following amounts:
(1) General contractor - $500,000 minimum coverage
(2) Subcontractor - $500,000 minimum coverage
(3) Specialty contractor with a state license - $500,000 minimum coverage.

(c) The general public liability insurance coverage shall include a provision in favor of the City which shall indemnify and hold harmless the City for a period of one year from the date of completion of construction against any and all actions, causes of action, liabilities, judgments, damages, costs, and expenses (including attorney's fees) which may arise directly or indirectly or accrue against the City as a consequence of such construction.
(d) The Building Department may request an annual certificate showing the renewal of such coverage as he or she shall deem appropriate. Any lapse of such coverage shall be considered grounds for the revocation of contractor's or subcontractor's license and registration.
