The following section is hereby added to the National Electrical Code, as adopted in Section 1426.01:
220-5. Main Switch for Branch Circuits; Overcurrent Protection. For each class of service entrance, the service entrance equipment shall contain one main switch ahead of all branch circuits. This main switch may be of either the circuit breaker or the fuse type, and may be enclosed either in a separate enclosure or included in the same enclosure as contains the branch circuit overload or overcurrent protection devices. All branch circuits on all work begun after March 19, 1962, shall have as overload or overcurrent protection devices either type S fuses or noninterchangeable circuit breakers.
