At the request of the operator of a light motor vehicle, a police officer can administer a stationary motor vehicle noise test as outlined in the Code of Recommended Practices, as follows:
Maximum Allowable Sound
Cars - 95 dB(A) at 3,000 rpm
Diesels - 95 dB(A) at 2,000 rpm
Motorcycles, motor bikes, mini-bikes, snowmobiles and similar motor vehicles - 93 dBA at 1/2 of red line.
(Example: If the red line is 6,000 rpm, 1/2 is 3,000 rpm.)
The meter shall be set at an angle of forty-five degrees from the centerline of the car, elevated at the same height as the exhaust. The distance from the exhaust is fifty centimeters. Fifty centimeters equals 19.6 inches. (50 x 0.3937 = 19.6") (19 5/8")
