§ 50.18 INSTALLATION OF SEWERS IN CLOSE PROXIMITY OF EXISTING WATER MAINS.
   (A)   All sanitary and storm sewer lines shall be laid to provide a minimum horizontal distance of ten feet and, in case of a crossing, a vertical distance 18 inches from any existing or proposed water main. The distance shall be measured from the outside edge of the water main to the outside edge of the sewer. In the case of a crossing, the joints of the sewer shall be located as far from the joint of the water main as possible. Special structural support for the water main and sewer may be required by the Department.
   (B)   In cases where it is not practical to maintain the required horizontal and vertical minimum distances, the Department must specifically approve any variance from the minimum distance requirements. Where these distances cannot be met, the sewers shall, at a minimum, be constructed of water main type and grade or equivalent, and shall be pressure tested to ensure water tightness.
