APPENDIX A: EXPLANATION OF CITATION
Dear Sir or Madam,
You have been issued a Citation for violating and Ordinance of the City of Valparaiso, IN.
Please be advised that if you do not dispute the validity of the citation, you may resolve this matter by paying the FINE AMOUNT of $50 at the City of Valparaiso Violations Bureau, City Hall Clerk’s Office, 166 W. Lincolnway, Valparaiso, Indiana 46383. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You may pay by mail by signing section 1 or 2 at the bottom reverse side of the ticket and send the ticket to the above address with a MONEY ORDER in the amount of $50, made payable to the City of Valparaiso. DO NOT SEND CASH IN THE MAIL. NO PERSONAL CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Any questions, you may call (219) 462-1161.
Also be advised that your ability to pay this fine as a City of Valparaiso Ordinance Violation is good for THIRTY (30) DAYS ONLY from the date of the violation, or until the close of the next business day if the thirtieth (30th ) day should fall on a day when the Violation Bureau in not open for business.
If not timely paid, this violation will proceed to the Porter County Court located at the Courthouse, 16 E. Lincolnway, Valparaiso, Indiana 46383. It will then be enforced through the county court system. Please understand the City of Valparaiso Violations Bureau would then lose all ability to handle this matter in a simple fashion, and that such a transfer may result in the additional imposition of court costs.
If you wish to dispute the validity of the citation, you have two options. They are:
   OPTION #1:   Wait the 30 day period of time for the transfer to county court; or,
   OPTION #2:   You may inform the City of Valparaiso Violations Bureau in person or in writing that you wish this matter to be immediately transferred to the Porter County Court located at the Courthouse, 16 E. Lincolnway, Valparaiso, Indiana 46383.
If you inform the City Violations Bureau in person, you will be asked to sign a waiver authorizing said transfer.
If the citation is transferred to Porter County Court by OPTION #1 or OPTION #2, you MUST appear on the date and time and at the address listed on the citation for your arraignment, or pay the FINE and COURT COSTS to the Porter County Court by that date.
***Be further advised that, should this matter proceed to trial and a judgement be entered against you, you will be assessed court costs in addition to the fine. Any questions to the Porter County Court should be directed to (219) 465-3413, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
If, however, you wish to resolve this matter through the City of Valparaiso Violations Bureau, NO COURT APPEARANCE will be necessary, and NO COURT COSTS or POINTS AGAINST YOUR LICENSE will be assessed.
