249.06   PROBATIONARY PERIODS.
   (a)   All initial appointments in the Fire Department shall extend for a probationary period of one year from date of original hire and promotion. Such period may be extended by the Mayor with approval of Council for good cause for a period not to exceed an additional six months.
   (b)   No initial appointment to Fire Fighter shall be deemed final until the appointee has successfully served his or her probationary period. At the end of the probationary period, the Chief of the Fire Department will transmit to the Mayor a record of the employee's service, together with a recommendation as to whether the employee has satisfactorily served his or her probationary period. The Mayor shall then make a determination as to whether the appointee has satisfactorily served the probationary period. If such service is satisfactory, the appointee shall continue within rank. If the recommendation of the Mayor and Fire Chief concur as to the unsatisfactory probationary period, the Mayor shall cause a written notice of an unsatisfactory probationary period, the Mayor shall cause a written notice of an unsatisfactory probationary and a statement of such shall be issued to the employee as to his/her termination of employment.
