   (a)   Each applicant seeking an appointment in the Fire Department shall file with the Clerk, by the deadline set by the Mayor, a formal application which shall be furnished by the clerk's office to any person that desires to apply for an open position. Application forms shall be numbered and logged by the clerk's office. Any posting of results shall be by application number, not by applicant's name. Applicants shall be notified on the application form that those rendered unfit to perform the duties of the position desired, who have been addicted to habitual use of alcohol or drugs, who have been convicted of a felony, who have been dismissed from any public position, or have made any false statements on the application are subject to dismissal of their application. A background check shall be conducted by the Police Chief or designee for convictions of felonies or misdemeanors on file for each applicant and shall remain with the person's application. A background check is performed before any testing commences.
