(a) "Story" means that portion of a building included between the surface of a floor and the surface of the floor next above it or, if there is no floor above it, the space between the surface of a floor and the ceiling next above it.
(b) "Half-story" means the portion of a building between the top floor and a sloping roof, with at least two opposite exterior walls meeting the sloping roof not over three feet above such floor level.
