(a) It shall be the policy of the Village that, upon their retirement, full-time and permanent part-time employees of the Village shall receive payment for their unused sick leave to a maximum of ninety days at the rate of pay at the time of retirement. Fifteen years of continuous service shall be required for an employee to be considered retired under this section.
(b) It shall be the policy of the Village that, upon their retirement, full-time firefighters of the Village, with the exception of the Fire Chief, shall receive payment for their unused sick leave to a maximum of 720 hours at the rate of pay at the time of retirement. Fifteen years of continuous service shall be required for an employee to be considered retired under this section.
(c) Each full-time firefighter, with the exception of the Fire Chief, shall receive sick leave credit based on 4.6 hours of sick leave for every eighty hours of work, provided that full-time firefighters are on the twenty-four to forty-eight hour work schedule.
(d) Full-time and permanent part-time employees, with a minimum of five years continuous service, with the exception of twenty-four to forty-eight hour shift full-time firefighters, upon resignation or discharge without cause, shall receive one-third of their unused sick leave to a maximum of fifty days at the rate of pay at the time of termination.
(e) Provisional appointees, or those who render temporary, part-time, seasonal or intermittent service, shall be excluded from the benefits of this section. Any seasonal employees including, but not limited to, Service Recreation, Park Patrol and Camp Counselors, shall not earn any sick time. No part-time employee hired after March 18, 2003, shall earn any sick time.
