For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
AMBULANCE. Any privately or publicly owned motor vehicle that is specifically designed and constructed in compliance with current state and federal laws pertaining to the transportation of wounded, injured, sick, invalid or incapacitated human beings to and from a place where medical or hospital care is furnished.
ATTENDANT. Any person who has the duty of caring for sick, ill or injured persons including ambulance and fire rescue personnel licensed as First Responders, EMT-B. EMT-I, or EMT-P in an ambulance, and who is registered with the County of Valencia.
DRIVER. A person who also fulfills the requirements to operate a rescue vehicle or ambulance as herein defined and is CPR certified.
EMERGENCY. An injury or illness arising out of any accident or sudden illness in which time is of the essence in medical treatment of the patient.
EMSB ( EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES BOARD ). The public body legally created by the Board of County Commissioners responsible for the review, evaluation and operation of emergency medical services within the County of Valencia herein referred to as the EMSB.
EMT-B (EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN - BASIC). Person trained in emergency medical care in accordance with standards
prescribed by the New Mexico EMS Bureau and the New Mexico EMS Academy out of the New Mexico School of Medicine, and licensed to that level of scope of practice.
EMT-I (EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN - INTERMEDIATE ). Person trained in emergency medical care in accordance with standards prescribed by the New Mexico EMS Bureau and the New Mexico EMS Academy out of the New Mexico School of Medicine, and licensed to that level of scope of practice.
EMT-P (EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN - PARAMEDIC). Person trained in emergency medical care to the ALS level in accordance with standards prescribed by the New Mexico EMS Bureau and the New Mexico EMS Academy and the New Mexico School of Medicine, and licensed to that level of scope of practice.
FIRE DISPATCHER. A person operating communication equipment for the Fire Department as applicable.
FIRST ARRIVAL UNIT. Initial unit on scene.
FIRST RESPONDER. Person trained in emergency medical care in accordance with standards prescribed by the New Mexico EMS Bureau and the New Mexico EMS Academy out of the New Mexico School of Medicine. To the level which pertains to that scope of practice.
OPERATOR. Any person, firm, corporation, or governmental entity engaged in business as the owner or proprietor of ambulances or rescue vehicles.
PATIENT. An individual who is sick, injured, wounded, or otherwise incapacitated who receives medical care outside of the hospital and/or is transported to a hospital facility.
QUALITY ASSURANCE BOARD. An advisory group of technically competent persons to advise the EMSB in matters pertaining to direct patient care and training to include the Medical Director and appointed by the EMSB.
RESCUE. Fire/rescue transport units shall meet the definition of ambulance as defined above.
