Every person, upon conviction of a violation of this article, shall, upon first conviction thereof, be punished by a fine of not less than $5, or by imprisonment of not more than five days, or both such fine and imprisonment. Upon a second conviction of a violation of this article, within one year of a prior conviction, the fine shall not be less than $10, or imprisonment of not less than ten days, or such fine and imprisonment. Upon a third and subsequent conviction within one year from a prior conviction, the fine, therefore, shall not be less than $20 or imprisonment for not more than 20 days or both such fine and imprisonment.
