For the purpose of Chapters 51 through 56 of this code of ordinances, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
BUILDING DRAIN. The part of the lowest horizontal piping of a drainage system which receives the discharge from soil, waste and other drainage pipes inside the walls of the building and conveys it to the building sewer, beginning two feet outside of the building wall.

BUILDING SEWER. The extension from the building drain to the public sewer or other place of disposal.

NATURAL OUTLET. Any outlet into a watercourse, pond, ditch, lake or other body of surface or groundwater.
PUBLIC SEWER. A sewer in which all owners of abutting properties have rights, and is controlled by public authority.
SANITARY SEWAGE. Sewage discharging from the sanitary conveniences of dwellings (including apartment houses and hotels), office buildings, factories or institutions, and free from storm, surface water and industrial waste.
SEWAGE. Includes sewage as defined in federal law and regulations, or a combination of the liquid and water-carried waste from residences, commercial buildings, institutions and industrial establishments, together with groundwater, surface water and stormwater as may be present, whether treated or untreated, which is contributed into or permitted to enter the POTW.
SEWAGE WORKS or SEWAGE SYSTEM. Sewers, intercepting sewers, pipes or conduits, pumping stations, force mains and all other constructions, devices and appliances appurtenant thereto used for collecting or conducting sewage to a point of treatment or ultimate disposal.
SEWER. A pipe or conduit for carrying sewage.
