125.03 INDIGENT BURIAL SERVICES.
   (a)   The City Auditor is directed to review all requests for indigent burial expenses and is hereby authorized to pay up to a maximum sum of two thousand dollars ($2,000) for required basic services for the interment and/or cremation of an indigent decedent who was a resident of the City of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, as required by Ohio R.C. 5101.521.
   (b)   Such funeral, cremation, cemetery, and/or burial expenses shall not be made to the extent that the indigent decedent had funds available at the time of death for such expenses. The City shall only make payment of an amount equal to the difference between the resources of the indigent decedent, in real and personal property and insurance, and the maximum sum of two thousand dollars ($2,000).
   (c)   Should it be ascertained, after any payment by the City pursuant to subsection (a) hereof, that such payment was made for a decedent whom the City did not have the responsibility to bury pursuant to Ohio R.C. 5101.521, the City shall be entitled to any benefits paid or payable on behalf of such decedent by any person, entity or agency who had the responsibility to pay the burial benefits pursuant to Ohio R.C. 5101.521, up to an amount equal to the payment made pursuant to subsections (a) and (b) hereof on behalf of the decedent.
   (d)   Prior to any payment, itemized invoices shall be provided to the City Auditor detailing the basic expenses incurred with respect to the funeral, cremation, cemetery, and burial expenses provided on behalf of the indigent decedent, along with such other information and/or documentation required by the Auditor to determine if the decedent is indigent and was a resident of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, at the time of death.
