If a DROP participant dies before the DROP account balances are paid, the participant’s designated beneficiary shall have the same rights as the police officer to withdraw or direct the DROP account balance. If a DROP participant is killed in the line of duty, the participant’s survivors shall receive the killed-in-service benefit pursuant to Act 51 of 2009. All amounts in the participant’s DROP account at the time of his/her death shall be paid to the participant’s survivors.
