(A) All water service pipe shall be a minimum size of 3/4-inch continuous pipe with no joints.
(B) All water service pipe shall be of type K-copper or polyethylene plastic, or polybutylene plastic tubing or pipe and include a tracer wire. Plastic pipe shall bear the ASTM marking and number.
(C) All water service shall have a minimum working pressure of 200 psi.
(D) All water service piping, when entering the building, shall terminate within five feet inside the point of entry.
(E) Positioning. All meters shall be set horizontally in dry, clean, sanitary places perfectly accessible, no less than 12 inches from floor level or more than 24 inches from floor level, with a minimum of six inches from any wall, 12 inches from top for reading purposes to immovable object with a gate valve on both sides of the meter and within six inches of the meter, and where a small leak or the spilling of water will do no damage.
(F) Meter must be installed before certificate of occupancy is issued by the County Building Department. Inspection on all water service leads is mandatory. Failure to have it inspected by the Union City Department of Public Works will result in exposing the water lead for inspection at the owner’s expense.
(G) All water service pipes must be laid with a minimum of five feet of cover, six feet is preferred.
(H) No water service shall be installed when the service pipe is in line with a tree, fire hydrant, catch basin, or other obstruction. If the water service pipe is to be concrete or pavement area a “D” box must be installed.
(I) The water service may be placed in the same trench with a sewer line if approval is given by the Department of Public Works Supervisor and/or Village Manager, and all of the following conditions are met:
(1) The bottom of the water service pipe at all points shall not be less than 18 inches above the top of the sewer line at its highest point.
(2) The water service pipe shall be placed on a solid shelf excavated at one side of the common trench.
(3) If the above conditions cannot be met, the water service and sewer line shall be separated by a minimum of 10 feet of unexcavated earth.
(J) Cross connection policy. Under state law, each municipality is responsible to ensure that commercial and industrial facilities within its jurisdiction are in compliance of state requirements preventing the use of faulty cross connections or backflow devices contained within the water system. Residential units as of January 2018 are included. As a result of these mandates, the village will inspect residential units and all commercial and industrial facilities within the city shall hire a licensed back flow inspector to perform their inspections at their cost and supply the village with results annually in accordance with the policy. The village maintains a cross connection ordinance, found in § 50.20.
(K) All installations must conform to the “Village of Union City’s Water Main Specifications” sheet which shall be adopted by council and kept available at the Union City Village Office and village website.
