8-1-16: APPARATUS AND EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:
   A.   Pipes Kept In Good Repair: All customers shall keep their service pipes, connections and other apparatus in good repair and protected from frost at their own expense. Failure of a customer to comply with this subsection shall be grounds for shutting off of water service. No person shall be allowed to dig into the street for the purpose of laying, removing or repairing any service pipe unless that person obtains a permit from the city.
   B.   Quality Of Pipes: All pipes used in connection with the system shall be of such material, quality and specifications as the city may from time to time provide, and shall be installed at such distances belowground as may be specified by regulations relating to the department and the system. Failure of a customer to comply with this subsection shall be grounds for shutting off of water service. All work, alterations or extensions affecting water pipes shall be subject to inspection by the superintendent and must be accepted by the superintendent.
   C.   Faulty Equipment:
      1.   It shall be unlawful for any customer to:
         a.   Allow water to be wasted by defective, broken or inadequate stops, taps, valves, leaky joints or pipes, or sprinkling systems;
         b.   Allow tanks or watering troughs to overflow;
         c.   Wastefully run water from sprinkling systems, faucets or stops, or through basins, water closets, urinals, sinks or other apparatus;
         d.   Use the water in the system for purposes other than those for which the user has been approved; or
         e.   Use water in violation of the rules and regulations for controlling the system and the water supply.
      2.   Violation of this subsection may be grounds for shutting off of water service to the customer found to be in violation. (Ord. 168-03, 11-11-2003)
