§ 10.144.030   Definition.
   For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   ACCESSORY DWELLING UNIT. An accessory dwelling unit is either a detached or attached dwelling unit which provides complete, independent living facilities for one or more persons. It shall include permanent provisions for living, sleeping, eating, cooking, and sanitation on the same parcel as the principal dwelling unit. An accessory dwelling unit may also be an efficiency unit, as defined in § 17958.1 of the Cal. Health and Safety Code, or a manufactured home, as defined in § 18007 of the Cal. Health and Safety Code.
   LIVING AREA. The interior habitable area of a dwelling unit including basements and attics but does not include a garage or any accessory structure.
   PRINCIPAL DWELLING UNIT. A single-family dwelling unit situated on a residential lot to which an accessory dwelling unit as defined by this chapter has been or is proposed to be added.
