The purpose of the Public Lands (P-L) District is to allow space to accommodate the community’s need for a wide range of public uses, such as parks, playgrounds, cultural and educational facilities and infrastructure systems; to protect lands whose primary purpose is to remain in open space such as wildlife sanctuaries, wetlands, reservoirs and agriculture; and to prevent development of areas which are environmentally sensitive, such as flood plains and geologically hazardous sites.
