(A) It shall be the duty of the Chief of Police to screen all applicants for positions with the Police Department and make recommendations with respect thereto to the Town Council, which shall make such appointments. The Chief shall formulate and communicate to other officers the general regulations of the Department, especially with regard to code of conduct expected of officers and grounds for dismissal from the Department.
(B) It shall be the duty of all members of the Police Department to enforce all ordinances of the town and the laws of the state, within the jurisdiction prescribed by statute; to secure proper warrants for the arrest of those violating said ordinances and laws, including the issuance of citations to such offenders when the nature of such offense indicates the same; and to cooperate with the courts, as witnesses or otherwise, in the prosecution of such violators. It shall also be the duty of the members of the Police Department to protect life and property, keep the peace, and attempt to prevent crime.
