It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge a firearm at any time or place within the town except when used in defense of person or property. This section shall not apply to the following persons:
(A) Officers and enlisted personnel of the U.S. Armed Forces when in the discharge of their official duties;
(B) Civil officers of the United States while in the discharge of their official duties;
(C) Officers and enlisted personnel of the militia and the state guard when in the discharge of their official duties;
(D) Law enforcement officers of the state or of any city, county, or town charged with the execution of the laws of the state, city, county, or town when acting in the discharge of their official duties; and
(E) Persons acting pursuant to lawful directions of law enforcement officers.
