The Director of the Department of Law shall be known as the City Attorney and shall be an attorney-at-law, admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio, in good professional standing. The City Attorney need not be a resident of the City. He or she shall perform such duties as may be assigned to a City Solicitor by law, as well as those imposed by Council or by the Administrative Code. The City Attorney shall be appointed by Council for an indefinite term.
By letter filed with the Clerk of Council, the City Attorney shall recommend a qualified attorney to exercise the powers and perform the duties of City Attorney during his or her temporary absence or disability. The Council may revoke such designation at any time and appoint another attorney to serve until the City Attorney returns or his or her disability shall be ceased.
