The following speed zones are hereby established, and shall be marked with appropriate signs. No motorist shall drive faster than is permitted by this schedule in the following zones.
(A) “Speed Zone Ahead” signs shall be erected approaching the corporate limits on: East Lake Street; West Lake Street; Hawpatch Street, approaching north corporate limits; and Main Street, approaching the south corporate limits.
(B) Unless otherwise provided by this schedule, or by subsequent ordinance, the speed limit on all streets, roads and highway within the corporate limits of the town shall be 30 mph. Signs indicating this 30 mph speed limit shall be erected at: the intersection of West Lake Street and the Redman Drive; at the intersection of East Lake Street and the east property limits of Topeka Livestock Auction, Inc. at the intersection of the north corporate limits and Hawpatch; and at the intersection of the south corporate limits and Main Street. Any person who violates the provisions of this division (B) commits a Class C infraction and shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined in an amount not to exceed $50, plus any and all attorney’s fees and costs of collection.
(C) During school hours, signs shall be erected at Mill Street, approaching from the north on Main Street, and at Pine Street, approaching from the south on Main Street, which signs shall indicate “School Zone” and “20 mph Speed Zone”. Any person who violates the provisions of this division (C) commits a Class B infraction and shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined in an amount not to exceed $75, plus any and all attorney’s fees and costs of collection.
(D) The speed zone on West Lake Street, between the west corporate limits and Redman Drive, and on East Lake Street, between the east corporate limits and the east property line of Topeka Livestock Auction, Inc., is hereby established at 40 mph, and signs indicating this speed limit shall be erected at the west corporation limit on West Lake Street and at the east corporation limits on East Lake Street. Any person who violates the provisions of this division (D) commits a Class C infraction and shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined in an amount not to exceed $50, plus any and all attorney’s fees and costs of collection.
(E) The speed zone on Pleasant Drive is hereby reduced to 20 mph, and signs indicating this speed limit shall be erected in appropriate and lawful positions thereon. Any person who violates the provisions of this division (E) commits a Class C infraction and shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined in an amount not to exceed $50, plus any and all attorney’s fees and costs of collection.
(F) The entire length of Nature Trail shall be posted a 25 mph speed limit. Any person who violates the provisions of this division (F) commits a Class C infraction and shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined in an amount not to exceed $50, plus any and all attorney’s fees and costs of collection.
(G) The speed limit on Hawpatch Drive and Lehman Avenue shall be 35 mph. Any person who violates the provisions of this division (G) commits a Class C infraction and shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined in an amount not to exceed $50, plus any and all attorney’s fees and costs of collection.
(H) The speed limit on School Street, from South Main Street to Harrison Street, shall be posted a 20 mph speed limit. Any person who violates the provisions of this division (H) commits a Class B infraction and shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined in an amount not to exceed $75, plus any and all attorney’s fees and costs of collection.
(I) In the town, the speed limit for North Street, in both directions from its intersection with North Main Street to its intersection with Pleasant Avenue, shall be posted 20 mph. Any person who violates the provisions of this division (I) commits a Class C infraction and shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined in an amount not to exceed $50, plus any and all attorney’s fees and costs of collection.
(J) In the town, the speed limit for Harrison Street, in both directions from School Street to North Street shall be posted a 20 mph school zone. Any person who violates the provisions of this division (J) commits a Class B infraction and shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined in an amount not to exceed $75, plus any and all attorney’s fees and costs of collection.
(K) In the town, the speed limit for the area known as “Golden Acres”, which includes North Golden Drive, South Golden Drive, Jay Street, Todd Street and Meadow Lane, shall have a speed limit established at 20 mph. Any person who violates the provisions of this division (K) commits a Class C infraction and shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined in an amount not to exceed $50, plus any and all attorney’s fees and costs of collection.
(L) In the town, the speed limit for Crossfire Drive shall be posted 20 mph.
