For the purpose of enforcing the provisions of this chapter it shall be unlawful, and it is hereby made the duty of the city clerk, to require and obtain from every applicant for a license under the provisions hereof, at the time of such application, a verified statement concerning the trade, occupation, pursuit, calling and business of such applicant, and no license shall be issued to any applicant who shall, after request by the city clerk, fail or refuse to make said statement.
