A. Overweight Vehicles:
1. Restricted: No vehicle in excess of ten thousand (10,000) pounds' gross vehicle weight may be driven or parked on any street within the city, except as set forth in subsection A2 of this section.
2. Truck Routes Designated:
a. Vehicles in excess of ten thousand (10,000) pounds' gross vehicle weight may operate, if otherwise legal pursuant to the statutes of the state of Illinois and the ordinances of the city, only on the following streets in the city:
Atchison Street | East 1 block from its intersection with Route 117 |
Bennington Street | From Walnut Street east to the city limits |
Cedar Street | From its intersection with Route 117 south to Railroad Street |
Olive Street | That portion extending from its intersection with Santa Fe Street south to Railroad Street |
Railroad Street | Any portion within the city limits |
Route 117 | Main Street south to Railroad Street |
Santa Fe Street | Any portion within the city limits |
State Highway 117 | Any portion within the city limits |
Topeka Street | East 1 block from its intersection with Route 117 |
Walnut Street | From its intersection with Santa Fe Street to its intersection with Bennington Street |
3rd Street | Extending from its intersection with State Highway 117 in a westerly direction a distance of 3 blocks |
b. The employees of the city are hereby authorized to erect signs and markers designating the oversize vehicle truck routes set forth herein.
3. Permit To Make Deliveries Required: Deliveries may be made by a vehicle in excess of ten thousand (10,000) pounds' gross vehicle weight; provided, that the driver of any such vehicle must receive prior permission to traverse streets not listed herein by contacting the chief of police of the city, who shall consult with the appropriate personnel of the public works department to determine that such travel may be permitted without undue damage to the streets to be crossed.
4. Parking Overweight Vehicles: No semitractor, or any other vehicle with a gross vehicle weight in excess of ten thousand (10,000) pounds, may be parked on any street in the city which is in or adjacent to any residential area. (Ord. 2000-1, 4-10-2000)
B. Parking Semitractors And Trailers:
1. No semitractor/trailer combination may be parked on any street within the city, except when making deliveries.
2. Semitractors may be parked within the city, provided they are parked on private property off of city streets and not blocking or resting on city sidewalks. No parked semitractor may be left running, except when making deliveries.
3. Trailers may be parked within the city limits, but only within areas designated by the city. (Ord., 9-10-2001)
C. Penalties: Any person violating any provision of this section shall be fined not less than one hundred dollars ($100.00) for the first such offense or violation. Any person who shall be adjudged guilty of violating any provision of this section a second or subsequent time shall be fined not less than two hundred dollars ($200.00) nor more than seven hundred fifty dollars ($750.00) for each subsequent offense.
