(a) At the time the permit is issued by the Officer for any public vehicle, there shall also be issued to the owner of such permit either a sticker or a metal tag showing the class of public vehicle, the license number and the year for which issued. The sticker or tag for each class of public vehicle shall be numbered consecutively each year, and the numbers on such tag shall correspond with the permit numbers, which shall in turn correspond with a body number assigned by the Officer, except as provided in Section 773.07.
(b) If at any time a permit is suspended or revoked, the owner of the permit shall remove from the vehicle or vehicles each identifying metal tag or sticker and forthwith return each such tag or sticker to the Officer. In addition, all identification, painting and lettering must be removed before the vehicle may be operated on the public streets.
