139.05 ADA ADVISORY COMMITTEE.
   (a)   The Mayor shall appoint an ADA Advisory Committee that shall consist of five people at least three of which are disabled, as that term is defined in the Americans With Disability Act, U.S.C. Par 12102 (2) to assist and advise the City's ADA Coordinator in capacities explained in this section. Members of the Committee shall be electors of the City who have expertise in education awareness pertaining to the reduction and eventual elimination of discriminatory barriers that limit the legal rights of residents with disabilities. Committee members shall serve for a term of three years from the date of appointment except that commencing January 1, 2007 two terms shall be for one year, two terms shall be for two years, and one term shall be for a period of three years; all subsequent appointments at the conclusion of said terms shall be for a period of three years. Committee members may be reappointed for successive terms.

      (1)   In addition to the five members, the President of Council shall appoint one member of Council to serve as an ex-officio and nonvoting member of the Committee. The Council representative shall serve until the next reorganization of Council. (Ord. 92-20. Passed 4-6-92.)
      (2)   The Committee shall meet biannually, or more often as deemed necessary by the ADA Coordinator.

   (b)   The Committee shall advise/assist the ADA Coordinator of the City as provider of public services, owner of public property and as employer, to include but not be exclusive of the following:
      (1)   Inspecting and identifying City buildings, facilities and public thoroughfares under its jurisdiction and control for correctable barriers to access and use.
      (2)   Preparation and annual updating of required self-evaluation.
      (3)   Institution and implementation of ADA compatible policies regarding accessibility, alterations, communication and employment.
      (4)   Establishment of grievance procedures.
      (5)   Promotion of public awareness and related issues.
      (6)   Keeping abreast of changes and additions to ADA laws, rules and regulations and providing informational assistance to City officials upon request.
      (7)   Networking with other agencies.
      (8)   Providing any other services within the City as required by ADA or its designated enforcement agencies. (Ord. 92-1. Passed 3-2-92.)
