§ 34.04 AUXILIARY POLICE UNIT.
   (A)   In accordance with the provisions of R.C. § 737.161, Council hereby establishes an Auxiliary Police Unit within the Police Department of the village.
   (B)   The organization and regulation of the Auxiliary Police Unit is as follows:
      (1)   The Mayor shall be the executive head of the Auxiliary Unit and shall make all appointments and removals of police officers subject to the following regulations:
         (a)   Each officer must have obtained or will obtain, within a period prescribed by the Mayor, a certificate of completion of the peace officers' basic training program and other training programs prescribed for appointment as permanent peace officer pursuant to R.C. § 109.77.
         (b)   The Police Chief shall from time to time interview and recommend to the Mayor those persons who appear most qualified to perform and execute the duties and responsibilities of a law enforcement officer and would meet the needs of the Auxiliary Police Unit.
         (c)   All appointments to the Auxiliary Police Unit shall be temporary, probationary and part-time.
         (d)   Police officers appointed to the Auxiliary Police Unit may be removed at any time, without cause, by the Mayor. Removal shall be effective upon written notice to such officer, being sent to his or her last known address or by hand-delivery of such notice to the officer, or upon such later date as may be contained in such notice.
      (2)   The Chief of Police shall be the commanding officer of the Auxiliary Police Unit and shall control the assignment, training, stationing and the direction of work of the officers appointed to such unit.
      (3)   The Mayor may prescribe additional rules and regulations for the organization, training, administration, control and conduct of the Auxiliary Police Unit, not inconsistent with this section.
      (4)   Compensation for patrol officers assigned to the Auxiliary Unit shall be as established by Council from time to time.
      (5)   Unless otherwise limited by the Mayor or Chief of Police, patrol officers appointed to the Auxiliary Police Unit and on duty are hereby vested with all police powers including, but not limited to, the power to pursue, arrest and detain persons violating laws of the state or ordinances of the village to the same degree as full-time police officers.
      (6)   Patrol officers appointed to the Auxiliary Unit shall wear a uniform identical with that worn by full-time police officers while on duty.
