7-1-7: METERS AND CURB STOPS:
   A.   Required: Every service line shall be provided with a meter and a meter box that meets town minimum requirements and is compatible with the town meter reading equipment. Each meter shall be located on the resident's property line or as close to the main as possible as directed by the chief operator and shall be set in a horizontal position when possible. Only the chief operator or his designee may open or close a curb stop, operate the on/off control valve in the meter pit/box or in any way tamper with or remove a meter. It is unlawful for any private party to use a curb stop key on any service or water line governed by these ordinances.
   B.   Deposits, Testing Of Meters: All new construction, existing users, change of status, change of water service, change in point of delivery that originates from the town water system shall be metered. The town will furnish, at no direct cost to the consumer, a three-fourths inch (3/4") or one inch (1") water meter with a remote reading device for all existing services at the time of the adoption date hereof. Meter boxes will also be furnished by the town for all outside installations up to two inch (2"). Said meter and box, at all times, shall remain the property of the town, and will not be removed from the premises except by employees of the town. All meters set and installed will be kept in repair at the expense of the town unless the damage done was caused by the negligence or the wilful conduct or the act of the user. When the meters are, in the opinion of the chief operator or his designee, worn out, they will be replaced by the town. Hereafter, all meters and remote reading devices shall be sealed and no person shall deface, injure or break said seal unless authorized to do so by said chief operator or his designee. All water meters may be tested at the expense of the town at any reasonable time. To the extent feasible, all water meters shall hereafter be located at the curb stop or near the property line and equipped with a remote reading device, which will allow said meter to be read with the town meter reading equipment and software. All remote reading devices so set and installed shall be kept in repair at the expense of the town, unless the damage done was caused by the negligence or the wilful conduct or act of the consumer. When remote reading devices are, in the opinion of the chief operator or his designee worn out, they shall be replaced by the town. The remote reading device shall be the property of the town and shall not be removed by the owner of the premises. (Ord. 179, 10-5-2010)
