(A) Anyone wishing to purchase bulk water from a fire hydrant on the town's water system must first apply at Town Hall and be approved by the Public Works Director before any connection is allowed. If approved, applicant will be given a designed hydrant location to withdraw the water from. Water may not be withdrawn from any other hydrant location. Charges for permits are as followed:
Length of Permit | Cost | Gallons Allowed |
1 day | $85.00 (nonrefundable) | Up to 10,000 gallons |
14 days | $205.00 (nonrefundable) | Up to 30,000 gallons |
30 days | $385.00 (nonrefundable) | Up to 60,000 gallons |
(B) If applicant knows he/she will need more than the allotted amount of water, they must pay for the additional water at the time of the application. Additional water charges are $5 per 1,000 gallons. If applicant needs more water after fees have been paid, it is their responsibility to return to Town Hall and pay for the additional use. If they do not pay for the additional usage, it will be considered water theft.
(C) Once the application has been approved and the fees have been paid the applicant will be issued a bulk water station permit. The permit holder must have the permit in their possession when withdrawing water from any hydrant. Public Works employees can request to see the permit at any time. Permit holders must use a proper hydrant wrench when collecting water from the designed fire hydrant. If permit holder is caught not using a hydrant wrench, their permit will be revoked and they will be charged for the hydrant repair. If permit holder does not have a proper hydrant wrench, the town will provide the permit holder one. There is a $50 refundable deposit fee if the town provides permit holder a hydrant wrench. The deposit will be refunded upon the return of the wrench, as long as wrench is in good working standards.
(D) Any person(s) caught removing water from a fire hydrant without a permit will be considered as water theft. The first time offense will result in a penalty of $500 minimum.
