§ 51.02 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning. Words importing the singular number shall include the plural; words in the plural shall include the singular. Every word importing the masculine gender shall apply to females as well as males.
   APARTMENT HOUSES. See DWELLINGS, MULTIPLE. 
   BUILDING, MULTIPLE BUSINESS. A building or portion thereof designed for or used by two or more businesses, operating independently of each other.
   BUILDING, ONE BUSINESS. A building designed for or occupied exclusively by a single business.
   CLERK. A person designated or appointed by the Town Board to carry on the routine business of the town, at a place designated by the Town Board, such as the town hall.
   DWELLING, BUSINESS BUILDING COMBINATION. A building or portion thereof designed for or occupied by one or more families and/or one or more businesses as described in the definitions for APARTMENT HOUSES; DWELLING, ONE-FAMILY; DWELLING, DUPLEX, TWO-FAMILY; DWELLING, MULTIPLE; FAMILY; HOME OCCUPATION; BUILDING, ONE BUSINESS; and BUILDING, MULTIPLE BUSINESS.
   DWELLING, DUPLEX, TWO-FAMILY. A building designed for or occupied by two families living independently of each other.
   DWELLING, MULTIPLE. A building or portion thereof used or designated as a residence for three or more families living independently of each other and doing their own cooking therein, including apartments, apartment motels and group houses.
   DWELLING, ONE-FAMILY. A detached building designed for or occupied by one family.
   FAMILY. One or more persons occupying a premises and living in a single housekeeping unit, as distinguished from a group occupying a boarding house, lodging house, or hotel.
   HOME OCCUPATION. An occupation for gain conducted only by the immediate family all of whom live on the premises and provided that no special space is designated or arranged for such occupation and provided that no article is sold or offered for sale except such as may be produced by the immediate family residing on the premises.
   PATRON. Any person receiving, upon the premises occupied by him the benefit of the town’s water or sewer service.
   PERSON. Shall extend and be applied to several persons, corporations, and to partnerships as well as to individuals.
   SEWER MAIN. Includes any line from which run service lateral sewer pipes.
   SUPERINTENDENT. The Superintendent of the Water and Sewer Department of the town.
   TOWN BOARD. The Town Board of the Town of Taylorsville, North Carolina.
   UNIT. One or more persons occupying a premises and living as a single housekeeping unit, and/or one business operating independently of any other business, and/or a premises occupied for a home occupation.
   WATER MAIN. Includes any supply line from which run service lateral water pipes.
