§ 71.65 OPERATING NEIGHBORHOOD ELECTRIC VEHICLES AND MOTOR ASSISTED SCOOTERS.
   (A)   Except as provided in division (C) hereof, neighborhood electric vehicles and motor assisted scooters as defined in Tex. Trans. Code, § 551.301 are prohibited and shall not be operated on the following heavily traveled streets due to the hazards presented by the vehicles for those operators and other motorists and in the interest of public safety:
      (1)   The entire length of Main Street within the city limits,
      (2)   On FM 1459 (known as Seventh Street, McKinney Street and Second Street) from the city limits to its intersection with Main Street,
      (3)   The entire length of Hackberry Street within the city limits,
      (4)   The entire length of Elm Street within the city limits, and
      (5)   The entire length of Ashley-Wilson Road within the city limits.
   (B)   In all areas of the city, pedestrians shall have the right of way on sidewalks versus any neighborhood electric vehicle or any motor assisted scooter.
   (C)   Any person who possesses a valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in this state and is over the age of 18 years of age, shall be exempt from the provisions of this section.
   (D)   Any person, firm, corporation, association or other entity that violates this section shall be subject to a fine of not more than $500 for each violation.
