(a) An owner, general agent or contractor where a violation of any of the provisions of this chapter has been committed or exists, or a lessee or tenant of any such premises involved in such violation, or his agent or contractor who knowingly takes part therein, shall be liable to prosecution for such violation.
(b) When any of the persons mentioned in subsection (a) hereof' has been notified in writing by the enforcement officer, or by the service of summons in a prosecution, or in any other official manner, that he is committing a violation of any of the provisions of this chapter, then a separate offense shall be deemed committed each day during or on which a violation occurs or continues after such notification.
