(A) All applicants for appointment to the Volunteer Rescue Unit shall enroll in the emergency victim care course of training and instruction as prescribed by the Division of Vocational Education of the Ohio State Department of Education and shall thereupon be appointed by the Mayor, upon the recommendation of the Rescue Chief, as a probationary member of the Volunteer Rescue Unit. Probationary status shall terminate at the expiration of nine months from the date of appointment thereto, except that for good cause shown, the Mayor may extend the term for a period not to exceed an additional three-month period.
(B) Upon the satisfactory completion of the prescribed emergency victim care training program and certification of a licensed physician showing that the applicant within 60 days of appointment has passed a physical examination and meets the physical requirements necessary to perform the duties of a member of the Volunteer Rescue Unit, the applicant, upon the recommendation of the Rescue Chief, shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Council, to full membership on the Volunteer Rescue Unit.
