§ 33.04 HOLIDAYS.
   (A)   The village recognizes and observes the following holidays each year:
      (1)   New Year’s Day;
      (2)   Martin Luther King’s birthday;
      (3)   Lincoln’s birthday (police officers under union contract only);
      (4)   President’s Day;
      (5)   Friday immediately preceding Easter (except police officers under union contract);
      (6)   Easter (police officers under union contract only);
      (7)   Memorial Day;
      (8)   Juneteenth (observed if Monday through Friday) except employees under union contract;
      (9)   Independence Day;
      (10)   Labor Day;
      (11)   Veterans Day;
      (12)   Thanksgiving Day;
      (13)   The day following Thanksgiving (except under union contract); and
      (14)   Christmas Day.
   (B)   Every full-time permanent employee, regularly scheduled to work 80 hours per pay period (all police officers shall work 84 hours per pay period), shall be entitled to each holiday with pay, within the following guidelines.
      (1)   The day following Thanksgiving Day and the Friday immediately preceding Easter shall not be considered a holiday for police officers. Easter and Lincoln’s birthday shall be considered holidays only for police officers.
      (2)   Police officers who are scheduled and required to work on holidays shall be compensated at a rate of two and one-half times their normal hourly wage.
      (3)   For those employees not normally scheduled to work on Saturdays or Sundays, if any holiday falls on a Sunday, the holiday shall be deemed to have fallen on the following Monday. If any holiday falls on a Saturday, the holiday shall be deemed to have fallen on the previous Friday.
      (4)   Each such holiday shall be observed by the village on the same date that it is observed by Federal Government offices.
      (5)   Police officers not normally scheduled to work on the day on which a holiday falls shall be compensated for 12 hours pay at their normal hourly wage.
      (6)   Holidays are based upon the fiscal year beginning May 1 and ending April 30. Personal holidays must be scheduled and taken within the fiscal year or they are forfeited. Personal holidays must be approved by the employee’s supervisor at least 24 hours in advance (48 hours in the case of police officers), unless an emergency occurs. Personal holidays cannot be taken in increments of less than one hour.
