5-1-5: DOG LICENSING:
   A.   Licensed To Person Eighteen Or Older: All dogs must be licensed, except as otherwise provided, to a person of the age of eighteen (18) years or older.
   B.   Time Frame For Licensing: An owner of any dog within Summit County shall obtain, from the division of animal control, a license for such dog within thirty (30) days after the dog reaches the age of four (4) months, or within ten (10) days of the acquisition of such dog or presence of such dog within Summit County.
   C.   License Applications: License applications must be submitted to the division of animal control, utilizing a standard form which requests name, address and telephone number of the applicant, the breed, sex, color, and age of the dog, and pertinent information regarding rabies vaccinations. The application shall be accompanied by the license fee as set forth in the animal control fee schedule, and by a current rabies vaccination certificate as set forth in section 5-1-17 of this chapter.
   D.   Proof Of Sterilization: No dog shall be licensed as spayed or neutered without proof of sterilization. Unsterilized dogs over the age of six (6) months shall be subject to the higher licensing fee as set forth in the animal control fee schedule, unless proof of sterilization is provided to the division of animal control within thirty (30) days of licensing or unless the dog is bred by a commercially licensed dog breeder. For a dog under the age of six (6) months, the division of animal control may accept, in lieu of proof of sterilization, certification from a veterinarian that the owner has deposited funds for sterilization, in which case, the dog may be licensed at the reduced fee as set forth in the animal control fee schedule.
   E.   License Term/Expiration: The expiration date of all licenses shall correspond to the date on which the rabies vaccination expires. Newly issued licenses shall be effective three (3) years from the date of purchase if purchased contemporaneous with a rabies vaccination. Dogs that have not been previously vaccinated with the rabies vaccine shall receive a one year vaccination and their licenses are only valid for one year. After the initial vaccination and license, the three (3) year license is available. Licenses must be renewed prior to expiration and licenses may be purchased within thirty (30) days prior to the expiration date. (Ord. 832, 11-12-2014)
