COS grants its employees use of sick leave during bereavement in accordance with the following provisions.
In cases where the decedent is a member of the immediate family the employee will be allowed to use sick leave on scheduled workdays that fall on the day before, the day of, and the day after the funeral. Immediate family is a member in the following relationship:
• Parent, Step Parent
• Spouse
• Child, Step Child
• Brother, Step Brother
• Sister, Step Sister
Upon the death of a close family member the employee will be allowed to use sick leave for the day of the funeral if the relationship is as follows:
• Grandparent
• Grandchild
• Parent of Spouse
• Aunt
• Uncle
Other Relatives
Absence due to the death of other relatives not listed above may qualify for the use of sick leave at the discretion of the Mayor.
Employees must inform their supervisors before taking leave.
