The COS will observe West Virginia legal holidays as established through acts of the West Virginia Legislature. Holidays which will be observed and paid are:
• New Year's Day
• Martin Luther King Day
• Presidents Day
• Memorial Day
• WV Day
• Independence Day
• Labor Day
• Columbus Day
• Veteran's Day
• Thanksgiving Day and the day after
• Christmas Day and one (1) additional day
The list of holidays shall also include any national, West Virginia or Summersville Municipal Election Day or any other day as designated by the Mayor.
Although COS offices may be closed for observed holidays, it may be necessary for some employees to work in order to provide essential/emergency services. If it is deemed necessary for an employee to work on a holiday the employee shall be allowed to take equivalent time off from work in either the preceding week or the week following the holiday.
Salaried employees will not be paid for working on a holiday. However, they may take equivalent time off from work if working the holiday has the prior approval of the Mayor
Only regular full-time employees shall receive any pay for holidays. Employees must work the day before and the day after a holiday in order to earn holiday pay, unless on prior approved leave.
