§ 37.01 HIRING OF INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS.
   (A)   It is the policy of the City of St. Regis Park to require any person doing work for the city as an independent contractor to submit to the city a certificate of insurance showing that the contractor has in place a sufficient policy of insurance (in the sole opinion of the city); given the extent and the nature of the work to be performed. The certificate of insurance must be presented as a condition to and prior to performing such work. Such insurance policy at a minimum must contain coverage for any statutorily required insurance that the contractor may have to maintain, such as workers compensation and unemployment insurance; and general liability coverage of at least $500,000. It is further the policy of the city to attempt to get the city named as an additional insured, if, in the sole opinion of the city, the nature and extent of the work makes this requirement reasonable to require.
   (B)   It is the policy of the city that any other person(s) who desire to do work for the city shall be treated as an employee of the city and paid as an employee, with any required withholding, so that the person(s) could qualify for coverage under the City of St. Regis Park insurance policy.
